Christmas dinner can be a pricey affair, especially if you have a lot of people coming. The price of different things can add up. Just because you want to have nice dishes, however, does not mean that you have to spend an unbelievable amount of money. There are a wide variety of things that you can do to save money for Christmas dinner.
Cook instead of purchasing pre-made foods
In general, you usually save a lot of money by cooking food instead of buying it. Especially if you purchase from a restaurant, you may be paying a large surcharge to have them make the food for you. You can almost always make the same dish for cheaper yourself. If it is too much for you to make everything, then you may want to consider making some and buying some instead of buying everything.
Shop at discount warehouse clubs such as Sam’s Club and Costco.
You can save a great deal of money on certain items from these discount places. Sometimes the problem about buying at these places is that you sometimes have to buy in large quantities but this may be perfect for Christmas dinner. There are certain items that they seem to be especially cheap on. Once such item is a cake. You can get a large beautiful, decorated cake, with several layers that feeds 48 people for approximately $17 at Costco. Many mainstream grocery stores charge twice that or more for the same item. In addition, it is delicious, thus you are not compromising on taste. Another area that you can do very well there is the frozen appetizers. They sell large family style appetizer collections with fifty or more pieces that make it far cheaper than your typical grocery store. They are also very competitive on platters, side dishes and even prepared food if you choose to go that route.
Make nice dishes with less expensive item
Some items such as many meats and seafood are just more expensive than other items. If you are creative, you could make delicious meals with items that are much less expensive, such as rice. If you have a great recipe, people will just enjoy the taste and will not necessarily think about the lack of high-cost items. You can still have the high cost items if you feel like you need them, but you may need less if you have them share the stage with the less expensive dishes.
